China Eastern (MU) has started a direct service linking Xian Xianyang airport with Moscow Sheremetyevo airport twice a week.
A 227 seat-B767 has been deployed on the route, offering of 27 business and 200 economy seats. The service MU5009 departs from Xian on Tuesday and Thursday at 1330 and arrives in Moscow at 1800, while the return flight MU5010 leaves at 2010 and lands in the Chinese city at 0730.
Previously passengers flying MU from Xian to the Russian capital had to transit at Shanghai Pudong airport, but the new direct flight saves 13 hours in journey time.
Xian is most famous for being an ancient Chinese capital and the Terracotta Army, but it is actually an industrial boomtown as well. In May, Samsung Electronics opened a full-scale manufacturing facility there for its 3D V-NAND memory chips. The 230,000 sqm has taken 20 months to build.
