A name has been picked for the hotly anticipated low-cost carrier from Trans Asia Airways – one of five upcoming LCCs to look out for.
The name V Air was chosen from hundreds of entries by the general public. The Chinese name for the Taiwan-based airline will be "Wei Hang", meaning "mighty airline". The logo and destinations for the airline is still under consideration, a Trans Asia Airlines spokesperson told Business Traveller Asia-Pacific.
The cross-Straits budget airline market is relatively untapped – something the new operation is likely to cash in on. V Air is expected to launch services this year with a fleet of two or three Airbus A320 or A321s, and is likely to hub out of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
Taiwan's flag carrier China Airlines also recently announced that it will be establishing a low-cost airline with Tigerair, which will be called Tigerair Taiwan (see here).
