5 Sep 2013 by ScottCarey7

Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants has announced it will open and manage a new four-star hotel in Austin’s Rainey Street District.

The Hotel Van Zandt is due to open in 2015 and will feature 322 rooms over 16 stories.

The hotel will also house over 1,115 square metres of meetings and events space.

In terms of food and beverage there will be a main restaurant, lobby cafe and pool deck and bar.

Mike Depatie, CEO of Kimpton said, “Austin is not just the state capital and location of the University of Texas, but also the heart of a booming live music scene and the centre of a thriving technology sector.”

Kimpton already has three properties in Texas, with the Hotel Lumen and Hotel Palomar in Dallas and the upcoming Pearl Hotel in San Antonio, scheduled to open next year.

British Airways announced it will launch the only direct route between London and Austin yesterday (see news, September 3), starting March 2014.
