Silk Air has launched a new service to Makassar, Indonesia, marking the airlines’ 11th Indonesian destination and increasing its network to 44 points in 12 countries.
The city is the provincial capital of South Sulawesi, some 1,600km to the west from Jakarta. It is an important seaport and has a thriving service sector.
The inaugural flight MI 142 departed Singapore Changi Airport earlier today at 0805, and arrived in Makassar at 1115. The return flight, MI 141 is scheduled to take off at 1245 and expected to arrive back in the Lion City at 1540.

Earlier last week, Silk Air also launched service to Semarang (see here). With the two new destinations added, the airline's frequencies to Indonesia have gone up to 64 flights per week. As Soekarno-Hatta airport has long reached capacity and its runway in desperate need of repair, travellers in the archipelago often need to find alternative transit hubs to reach farther destination. Changi, being in close proximity and with extensive reach, has become an ideal choice for these passengers and they are likely to be attracted by these new flight options.
