German airline Lufthansa has cancelled over 1,700 scheduled flights for Monday due to a strike over pay dispute.
The industrial action is expected to last for one day. German airports affected are Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Hamburg.
Flights that are grounded are mostly domestic and short-haul European routes. Only 20 of the 1,650 short-haul flights will operate as scheduled.
In addition, cancellations and delays are expected for long-haul flights. Of the 50 planned flights for Frankfurt, only six will operate; in Munich, only three of the 17 planned flights are scheduled to fly; whereas in Düsseldorf all three long-haul flights will go ahead as normal.
Flights operated by the Germanwings unit, however, will not be affected.
Passengers for Monday's flights are advised to allow extra time at the airport. The airline is offering rebooking of flights as well as a full refund in some cases.
The airline has also listed the grounded flights on their website for passengers to verify their flight status.
Meanwhile, the airline advises passengers travelling within Germany and whose flights are canceled to travel by train with Deutsche Bahn. Passengers can exchange their e-tickets for travel vouchers through the airline’s website or at a Lufthansa check-in machine for train tickets.
