Beijing gets Morton's Steakhouse

20 Nov 2012

The US restaurant chain Morton’s of Chicago has opened one of their steakhouses in the centre of Beijing.

The new restaurant is located on the second floor of the Regent Hotel in the city’s Dongcheng district about 2km east of The Forbidden City. Nearby hotels include The Peninsula and The Ritz-Carlton.

The 110-seat main dining room has a gently curving wall-to-ceiling window stretching along one side. The décor is modern and bright, with a high-contrast black and white colour scheme.

There are also eight private dining suites available that are suited to meetings or entertaining guests.

The menu’s main feature is, of course, the steaks. Options include a 48-ounce (1300g) Porterhouse, a 20-ounce (550g) New York Sirloin, and a 12-ounce (340g) Double Cut Filet. The beef is aged and grain-fed.

Alongside these, other options include Maine Lobster, lamb chops and several chicken entrées.

The restaurant has an extensive wine list and will have temperature-controlled wine lockers where guests can store bottles in personally labelled vaults.

The restaurant is Morton’s second in Mainland China. The other one is located in Shanghai’s IFC mall.
