Holiday Inn guests will have a good reason to check under their pillows next month, as the hotel chain is placing more than £30,000 worth of diamonds in randomly selected hotel rooms to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
From October 1 guests staying at Holiday Inn hotels across the UK, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Turkey and Russia will stand the chance to find a cushion cut diamond worth more than one carat hidden beneath their pillow.
Holiday Inn will post clues and hints about the diamonds’ locations on its Facebook pages for customers to follow.
Mike Greenup, vice president of the European marketing division for Intercontinental Hotels Group, said, “Hiding diamonds in Holiday Inn hotels is an innovative way to celebrate our anniversary and give something back to our guests. It will be a big surprise for one lucky person in the UK when they check into their bedroom and find the rock sitting under their pillow!”
Holiday Inn officially celebrated its 60th anniversary on August 1, having opened its first hotel in Memphis, Tennessee in 1952.
The hotel group has launched several promotions to commemorate its anniversary, with social media users encouraged to leave posts for the chance to win free night stays or a week long family holiday to the destination of their choice (see online news August 1).
