Iberia pilots to stage January strikes

4 Jan 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Iberia members of the Sepla Spanish pilots’ union have called two days of strikes next week, following on from similar action over the festive period.

The carrier’s pilots staged two days of strike action on December 18 and 29, 2011, with the BBC reporting over a third of flights being cancelled.

The latest industrial action is set to take place on Monday January 9, and Wednesday January 11, with Iberia saying the strikes will “cause the suspension and delay of many of our flights, with a subsequent repercussion on the whole of our network”.

The carrier has already announced the cancellation of several long-haul services over the affected periods, including flights between Madrid and Miami, Bogota, Sao Paulo, Lima and Buenos Aires. According to Iberia’s website those short and medium-haul flights affected by the strikes will be “made public shortly”.

Merger partner British Airways has confirmed that its services between the UK and Spain will operate as normal, as will all flights by regional franchise partner Air Nostrum.
