Southern airports issue tentative weather warnings

16 Dec 2011 by ScottCarey7

While no delays are expected, airports around London are warning travellers to expect adverse weather conditions as the first of the winter snow starts to fall.

They may well be keen to present themselves as better prepared for snow this winter, following widespread disruption and flight cancellations last year (see online news December 20, 2010).

Gatwick airport said: “While we are expecting adverse weather conditions at Gatwick today, we do not anticipate that there will be any major impact on our operations. We will continue to monitor the weather situation and post any changes here.” You can follow updates from Gatwick on their twitter here.

London City reported that: “Due to a low cloud base at London City airport this morning, some flights are experiencing minor disruptions. Affected passengers are advised to contact their airlines for further information. For airline contact details Click here.” You can follow the airport’s twitter updates here.

London Luton issued an update at 1030 saying: “Snow clearance underway, currently experiencing some delays on arriving and departing flights. Further update due at 11:00am.” You can follow updates and see airline contact details here.

London Heathrow reported: “Weather warnings have been issued for some of the UK and Europe for Friday 16 December.” You can check the status of your flight at Heathrow here.
