From November 1, Singapore’s flag-carrier SIA will fly to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital city, under a code share agreement with Ethiopian Airlines (the airline is soon to become a Star Alliance member).
Under the agreement SIA will add its “SQ” code to Ethiopian-operated daily flights between Dubai and Addis Ababa. Reciprocally, Ethiopian will add its “ET” code to seven SIA-operated flights per week between Singapore and Dubai.
Once Ethiopian has achieved its membership status SIA's KrisFlyer members will be able to accrue frequent flyer miles when travelling on Ethiopian’s flights. Ethiopian’s Sheba Miles members will also be able to accrue miles when travelling on SIA’s flights.
"The codeshare agreement between SIA and Ethiopian Airlines provides us with the ability to reach a destination outside of the SIA network, and is part of our ongoing effort to increase our reach, to give our customers greater choice," said an SIA spokesperson.
