In Bangkok - great nightlife spots to try

20 Aug 2011

Bangkok, known as the City of Angels, boasts a reputation for the hottest nightlife in Southeast Asia – and, not without reason. The scene is constantly evolving and growing, with new places popping up, adding something more unique and eclectic each time. Here are a few of the coolest spots, whether you’re looking for a laid-back bar to go to with business clients or an energetic party to let out the week's tensions.

Bed Supper Club

This funky bar has already gained international acclaim as one of Bangkok’s coolest clubs. Consisting of a restaurant and resembling a space shuttle, it features a long tube-like shape, white interiors and, literally, beds for guests to unwind on throughout the night. Regularly, Bed Supper Club hosts world famous DJs, interactive live singing and dancing performances and art exhibitions.

Address: 26 Sukhumvit Soi 11

Clouds

Clouds belongs to Australian entrepreneur, Ashley Sutton. Located in the trendy Thonglor area, the wateringhole is built around an 80-year-old tree. The centrepiece drastically contrasts with the futuristic interiors, such as mirrored walls and Barbie Dolls hovering from the ceiling. The cocktails, put together by bar staff sporting clinical white overalls and headlamps and served alongside pizzas, follow the clouds theme too, such as Head in the Clouds, a mixture of Ketel One vodka, blueberries, green apple, rosemary, lime and honey.

Address: G/F Seenspace 13, 251/1 Thong Lor, Soi 13

Iron Fairies

This is another one of Ashley Sutton's babies and, as the name suggests, is as interesting as Clouds. The place oozes discreetion and has an eccentric and rustic feel to it. Located in the Thonglor area, it seems like it was plucked out of a Dickens novel – note spiral staircase, quirky little fairy statues (made out of iron), “fairy dust” jars filled with cookies and Absinthe cocktails. On some nights, Iron Fairies also has live jazz bands spicing up the atmosphere.

Address: 395 Sukhumvit Soi 55

Q Bar

Incorporating both a raging dance floor with a more calm lounge area and outdoor terrace, Q Bar strikes the perfect balance. The place, which has been a fixture for almost a decade, has managed to establish a name for itself, and is regularly frequented by local celebrities and international DJs.

Address: 34 Sukhumvit Soi 11

WTF Café and Gallery

As its website describes, the place strives to bring together under one roof “people, food, art, drinks and ideas.” Ensconced in a typical Bangkok shophouse and showcasing regular art exhibitions by local artists while serving tapas and unique cocktails, the place seems to be living up to its ambitious promise. Its events calendar has lots of other fun dos, such as Bangkok poetry nights and live band performances.
