Heathrow Express strike called off

22 Jun 2011 by BusinessTraveller

The Rail Maritime and Transport union (RMT) has called off a Heathrow Express strike scheduled for Sunday June 26 and Monday June 27. A statement from the union said:

“Following receipt of an improved offer from the company, rail union RMT announced today that strike action and action short of a strike on Heathrow Express scheduled for next week has been suspended to allow for a referendum ballot of members on the new proposals. The RMT executive is calling on members to vote to accept the new and improved offer.”

The move also means that an overtime ban by RMT members, which was also due to take affect between Saturday June 25 and Tuesday June 28 has also been suspended.

Members took strike action last month over what RMT called "a completely unacceptable pay offer".

For its part Heathrow Express has released a statement welcoming the removal of the threat of strike action.

“Heathrow Express welcomes the news that the RMT has called off all industrial action, including the strike planned for Sunday 26 June, and will be recommending acceptance of our offer. Throughout the negotiations, Heathrow Express has kept an open dialogue with the union and all employees, and is pleased that our customers will no longer be inconvenienced.

“Heathrow Express expects to reach a full and final resolution within the next two weeks.”
