Alitalia and China Eastern sign codeshare

23 Feb 2011

Barely a month after Alitalia announced it would launch flights between Rome and Beijing (see story here), it has struck up a codeshare agreement with China Eastern Airlines to rapidly expand its network in China.

From June 1 this year, the agreement will see the “AZ” code on flights to Shanghai serviced by China Eastern Airlines, which will operate four times a week. In return, the Chinese carrier’s code will appear on Alitalia’s new Rome-Beijing route. The agreement also extends to domestic routes in Italy and China.

Though it has been confirmed that Alitalia will utilise the Airbus A330-200 featuring their new premium economy product, Classica Plus (see story here),China Eastern has not yet released aircraft details. Flight times have also yet to be confirmed.
