Asiana orders six A380 superjumbos

6 Jan 2011 by BusinessTraveller

South Korean carrier Asiana Airlines has placed an order for six A380 superjumbos, with the first delivery scheduled for 2014.

The news comes as rival Korean Air gears up to take delivery of its first A380 aircraft in May, having confirmed that its superjumbos will feature an all-business class upper deck (see online news December 28, 2010).

A release published by Airbus confirms that Asiana “plans to operate the aircraft with a premium layout on key routes to Europe and the US”. There are no details as yet as to how the aircraft will be configured, and Airbus says that “the carrier will make an engine selection for its A380 fleet in the near future”.

This latest order means there are now 18 customers for the Airbus A380, with a total of 240 firm orders for the aircraft.
