China Eastern Airlines has announced the acquisition of 50 new Airbus A320 aircraft to meet growing demand for domestic and regional travel.
The single-aisle aircraft are scheduled for delivery between 2012 and 2015 and will expand the carrier’s total capacity by at least 11 percent.
The aircraft will be used on short haul routes, enabling the carrier to expand its domestic and regional network by mounting more flights.
The airline grew aggressively last year: it joined SkyTeam in April and saw passenger numbers rise by 47 percent throughout 2010.
