American Airlines (AA), founding member of the oneworld Alliance, has filed an application with the US Department of Transportation to launch non-stop services from Los Angeles to Shanghai's Pudong International Airport from April 5, 2011. Currently, no US carrier flies non stop between the two cities.
AA's existing flights from the US mainland to China are between Chicago and both Shanghai and Beijing.
For the new service, AA intends to use a 247-seat Boeing B777 aircraft, with 16 seats in First class, 37 seats in Business class and 194 seats in Economy class. It will fly into Pudong International Airport's Terminal 2, which hosts oneworld partners such as Cathay Pacific, Dragonair, British Airways, Qantas and Finnair.
AA, which also flies non stop from Los Angeles to Tokyo's Narita International Airport, began service from Chicago O'Hare International Airport to Shanghai in April 2006 and from O'Hare to Beijing in May.
