Japan Airlines (JAL) will introduce Premium Economy seating on its Tokyo-Sydney service from December 1.
Tickets for the service can be booked from today, November 11.
The carrier will introduce the new class category in December, when a Boeing 777-200ER will be deployed for its daily flight between Sydney Airport and Tokyo-Narita International Airport.
JAL's Premium Economy Class features shell-shaped flat seats, each fitted with a 9-inch personal TV screen. The seat gives 20 percent more legroom than the regular Economy Class. As the seat doesn't extend backwards when adjusted to a fully flat position, the passenger in the back is not disturbed.
Passenger perks for booking this class include a 30kg baggage allowance (10kg above Economy Class), airport lounge access and a dedicated Premium Economy check-in service at both Sydney and Tokyo-Narita.
To mark the introduction of Premium Economy service on this route, JAL has introductory return fares from Japan starting from ¥147,000 (US$1,634), while flights from Australia are priced from A$1,500 (US$1,391).
The daily JAL 771 flight leaves Tokyo-Narita at 1955, arriving in Sydney at 0740 the next day, while the return JAL 772 flight takes off from Sydney at 0920, landing in Tokyo-Narita at 1710.
