Bmi to charge for Amex card transactions

24 Mar 2009 by BusinessTraveller

From April 22 customers using Bmi-branded Amex credit cards will no longer have the credit card fee waived when purchasing flights at flybmi.com. In return the carrier is offering triple miles on these transactions until the end of October.

Until now the carrier has allowed Bmi American Express credit card holders to avoid the £4 per person fee which is charged for using non Bmi-branded cards. But the airline has sent a email to cardholders informing them that this agreement will cease on April 22.

In an attempt to placate these customers (the vast majority of which will be members of Bmi’s Diamond Club loyalty scheme), the carrier is offering triple miles on all flights booked through flybmi.com using the Bmi Amex credit card, rather than the usual double miles. This offer is valid until October 31.

Note that at present the Bmi Mastercard credit card still offers fee-free transactions at flybmi.com, as do debit cards including Switch, Visa Delta, Visa Electron and Solo cards.
