Passenger numbers through BAA’s UK airport fell 6.3 per cent in January compared to the same period in 2008, although Heathrow recorded a drop of only 2.1 per cent.
A total of 9.4 million passengers travelled through BAA’s seven UK airports, a fall of just over 145,000 passengers. UK domestic traffic was down 12 per cent, with North Atlantic traffic falling by 5.9 per cent.
The largest fall in numbers was seen at Glasgow airport, which saw a fall of 12.2 per cent. Stansted’s traffic was down 11.2 per cent, while gatwick’s fell by 10.8 per cent. Heathrow fared better, with a drop of just 2.1 per cent.
