Etihad to increase LHR flights

23 Jun 2008 by Mark Caswell

Etihad Airways will increase the number of weekly flights between London and Abu Dhabi to 21 this winter.

The carrier will add a third daily flight from October 26 (it currently operates three flights on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with a twice-daily service the rest of the week). The winter schedule will see flights departing London Heathrow (LHR) at 0920, 1350 and 2040, arriving into Abu Dhabi at 2020, 0050 and 0740 (the last two being the following day). The exception is the Thursday evening service which departs at 2100.

The increase in flights has been made possible by an agreement to lease more aircraft and LHR slots, with the aim to eventually increase the Abu Dhabi service to five-times daily over the next two to three years.

Etihad says it has carried more than 306,000 passengers on its Heathrow service during the past twelve months, with another 146,000 travelling on its daily Manchester service. The carrier also recently opened a new business class lounge at Abu Dhabi airport, as part of an overhaul of premium services at the airport (see online news May 21).
