One billion The amount in pounds fraudulently claimed by British workers in expenses each year, according to research by Travelodge. Some of the more outrageous claims detailed include luxury holidays, Viagra, lap dancers and a pet hamster called Barry. 

3,730,134 The number of passengers who flew with Easyjet in March 2008, a 20.5 per cent increase on the same period in 2007.

1.4 million The number of passengers carried by Etihad during the first quarter of 2008. The airline says it achieved average load factors of 75 per cent across its network of 45 destinations and remains on track to carry six million passengers this year.

20,000 The number of rooms to be added to Starwood’s Sheraton portfolio this year. The brand is due to open a hotel every 12 days during 2008 as part of a US$2 billon investment programme.

169 The number of rooms at the first Holiday Inn Express in Taiwan. The hotel is due to open in August in Taichung, the country’s third-largest city. Holiday Inn will be the city’s first global hotel brand.

83.2 The average load factor on Germanwings flights during March 2008. The budget carrier says it carried 582,372 passengers during March.

34 The number of new destinations introduced by Flybe in its summer 2008 schedule. The figure includes two new Loganair routes from Dundee to Birmingham and Belfast, the result of a franchise agreement signed earlier this year. 

Six The number of hotels now part of Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria Collection. The latest to join the exclusive club is the Rome Cavalieri, set in a 15-acre park overlooking the city centre.

One The amount in pounds for a room at London’s Hoxton Urban Lodge during its sale. The hotel will offer 1,000 rooms for a nominal charge (500 at £1 and 500 at £29) from midday today (April 11).

Zero The charge for wifi internet access at properties within the Hand Picked Hotels chain. The group is now offering free access in the public areas of its 17 hotels in the UK and Jersey.
