Hyatt Regency to return to Hong Kong

11 Dec 2007 by Mark Caswell

A new Hyatt Regency property will open on Canton Road in Hong Kong’s busy Tsim Sha Tsui shopping and entertainment district in 2009.

The original Hyatt Regency Hong Kong was launched in 1969 on Nathan Road, and was the first in the brand to open outside the US, but after 36 years it was demolished. Hyatt also has a Hong Kong property under the Grand Hyatt brand, located on Harbour Road.

The new hotel will feature 384 rooms, including 33 suites. Bedrooms will occupy levels 10-24 and each will have flatscreen TV with cable and satellite programming, wired and wifi internet access, a safe with built-in laptop charger, workstation with enhanced lighting, and a personal bar, while bathrooms will be fitted with a soaking tub and a separate shower with rain showerhead.

The hotel will house eight meeting rooms, including one on the top floor with floor-to-ceiling windows and views across Victoria harbour, and will all be equipped with wifi internet access and the latest audio-visual technology.

Other facilities will include a 382-sqm ballroom, fitness centre, 25-metre swimming pool, outdoor whirlpool and children’s pool, as well as a 1,394-sqm Sky Garden on the ninth level, and the Regency Club on floor 24.

Dining options will comprise the Chinese Restaurant and Chin Chin bar, both serving local specialities, as well as Hugo’s and The Café, where patrons can watch dishes being prepared as they enjoy international food.

The new Hyatt Regency property will occupy floors three to 24 in the new development, which will also accommodate a five-story shopping arcade, and basement access to the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station.
