Strange… The price quoted for the digital edition is £27.50, but when I complete the form and move to the Paypal screen, it is suddenly £33, with no explanation. I am guessing it is VAT, but the process is not transparent. If VAT is charged, it has to be displayed as a separate line item by law, or the screen has to declare that 20% VAT has been added. Am I missing something?

There is no VAT on magazines in the UK.

Or a charge for going paperless!

Dear Tim2sms – firstly apologies for not replying to this query yesterday.

We’ve checked, and while print magazines and newspapers are indeed exempt from VAT in the UK, digital publications are subject to the tax (currently levied at 20 per cent). Some other countries also levy this tax.

We’ve been in touch with Zinio to confirm whether the payment process needs to be updated to make this clearer.

    Dear BT,

Is there a plan to release a iPad Newstand version ?
