Got an email this morning from Abellio proudly stating they are the new franchisee for Scotrail with an offer to provide £1 million free tickets across the network. Their message stated:

‘Abellio is excited and proud to manage Scotland’s national rail service. So excited in fact that we’ve decided to celebrate by giving away £1 million worth of free off-peak tickets to some of the most magical destinations in Scotland.* These tickets can be claimed between 1st-14th April for travel between 20th April and 14th June. It’s our way of saying hello and your way of seeing a little bit more of Scotland for free’.

Tried to get tickets but when putting in my departure station as Edinburgh the only option it gives you as a destination station is North Queensferry about 12 miles or a 15 minute journey and certainly not in the magical destination category.

Had a look a various other departure options but wasn’t any better.

Notwithstanding today’s date this is not a good start and maybe a sign of the things to come on the Scotrail franchise.
