The news that travel disruption to many thousand has reach reached the sun kissed shores of Australia (Fog bound in MEL I understand) and led Qantas to cancel many flights raises some serious questions about Ash and its effects on Aircraft. Qantas claim it is prudent to cancel yet Air New Zealand and other continue to operate…. So who is right? Such a move by one carrier and not others leaves travellers utterly confused and potentially deeply concerned. When it comes to safety surely there is a right and wrong answer and surely in the 21st century it is possible to state what is and what is not a safe level of Ash to fly in? The current situation is simply not acceptable and on the face of it Qantas seems to have shot themselves in the foot yet again.
