I appreciate your disapointment. I originally fell into the same trap. It looks like you travelled at the weekend, the first class service, is I agree, very poor. You may have been lucky enough to have an at seat service, rather than walking down to the shop.
If you had travelled during the week I am sure you would have seen a massive difference in the first class service on offer. The catering is tailored to the time of day and distance travelled. I travelled London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street and had a full cooked meal with desert and cheese and biscuits. There were several rounds of coffee and alcoholic drinks.
Sorry to rub your face in the excellent service I experienced, but there really is a massive difference bewteen weekday and the weekend service offered by Virgin Trains.
