This week sees the closure of Air Malta’s K Miles redemptions. I had already received an email about the cut off dates (Friday 29th February to book and end of March to fly). I used some miles for a trip this week and just accepted the remaining miles would disappear, despite Air Malta saying their would-be a cash payment.

I was quite surprised to receive an email today confirming a payment of a nearly 300 Euros for my remaining K Miles. Never seen this before and whilst I estimate I could have turned the K Miles into flights or upgrades worth twice as much, I will still enjoy a meal out courtesy of Air Malta.

Has anyone else benefited from a cash payment for airmiles when an airline goes out of business?
