Hannah BrandlerKeymasterThe UK government has introduced a £2 fare cap scheme on single tickets for more than 130 bus services in England until the end of March 2023.
The government has invested up to £60 million over three months to “subsidise operator costs and incentivise greener travel for commuters”.
An average single fare for a 3-mile journey is estimated at over £2.80, and the scheme is anticipated to save passengers almost 30 per cent of the price every time they travel.

Will you be making use of the new scheme?

AMcWhirterParticipantInteresting development and let’s hope it continues.
Some are saying this new initiative in our answer to Germany’s Euros 9 ticket of 2022.
Difference of course is that Germany’s offer provided one whole month of unlimited travel by public transport nationwide plus regional rail services.
Maybe some readers may be considering the £2 fare for their out-of-London journeys to Heathrow.
However service frequency etc may be an issue as Callum Marius of My London recently noted.
🤓£2 bus fares start tomorrow on 130 operators outside London, so naturally planning some bus stories/adventures!
£2 St Albans-Heathrow is a bargain but many once useful routes where I live now have such poor frequencies/runtimes/routeings I wonder if usage will actually go up? pic.twitter.com/ZrtaiRexLj

Hannah BrandlerKeymasterThe UK government has announced plans to invest up to £75 million to extend the £2 bus fare cap for a further three months until 30 June 2023.
As it stands there are over 140 operators signed up to the scheme, covering more than 4,600 routes. The Department for Transport (DfT) will work with these operators to re-confirm their participation for this extended period.
