Turkish Airlines will expand its presence at London Heathrow this coming winter.

It has purchased a single slot-pair from SAS for US$22 million which is more realistic price than the US$60 million for which SAS sold another slot-pair last month.

According to Turkish Airlines, the slots it has acquired from SAS cover afternoon slot-times.

SAS still has not named the airline to whom it sold an earlier slot for the record price of US$60 million. The price is so high because it is believed it covers peak times in the late morning.

The purchaser of the US$60 million slot-pair is reputed to be either a Gulf or North American carrier.

According to SAS’ corporate PR release, the carrier still holds 19 slot-pairs at Heathrow.

The airline says [if seeking to expand] it “will consider the use of other airports in the London region.”
