Turkish Airlines has changed its name.

But the first name change was rejected by President Erdogan.

This was to be the new name as reported by Aljazeera two days ago. It was to be ‘Turkiye’ airlines (with an umlaut over the “u”).

But yesterday Euronews.com/travel reported the President wanted it to be ‘Turkiye Hava Yollari (umlaut over the “u”).

It’s all to do with Turkey wishing to be known as “Turkiye” (unlaut over the “u”) which is how the name is spelled and pronounced in Turkish.

Will this lead to a brand refresh, or will they go entirely “retro” since THY was the old name?

Call it whatever you like, it will take 30 or 40 years before people call it anything other than what they know it as now, Turkey!

Now had the change been along the lines of Siam becoming Thailand or Ceylon Sri Lanka it may have had a quicker impact.

    Air Portugal was TAP.

TAP is now the Oyster Card of Los Angeles Metro Rail.

Is that information completely irrelevant, or what?

Hopefully Turkish will change/update their (Zero) customer service ethos also.

I would not hold your breath on that.
