It has been announced that Cathays flagship ‘Pier First Class’ lounge will reopen by 15th July

The iconic much admired go-to lounge which sets a world standard in airline lounges
has for years now been the go-to lounge for not only for Cathays 1st class passengers and its top-tier frequent flyers but also passengers of eligible partner airlines and their top-tier Oneworld Emerald equivalents

There is no exact date announced but the recently refurbished lounge will be eagerly anticipated particularly by cwoodward and Mrs C who are off to London later in July.

The connected and excellent Business Class Pier lounge near gate 64 was reopened about 3 months back.

The Pier is one of my favourite lounges and certainly makes a 4 hour plus layover enjoyable. Will be very interesting to see how CX revamp an already excellent lounge with fabulous facilities. I remember being stuck there a few years back due to CX cancelling my flights – it was on my birthday and the staff created a birthday culinary treat for me (a real birthday “billy no mates”) with wines and champagne, not on display.

The older relation The Wing, is still superb alternative, which I will use next week – BUT – there is something very special about the iconic Pier, whether chatting to fellow travellers at the bar, eating in the restaurant or creating some real estate to work remotely.

Whilst I agree that the Pier is a truly excellent lounge, Iā€™m not sure it sets a world standard.

That accolade, for me, goes to the AF La Premiere lounge in CDG.

It was few would disagree when first opened in 2015 essselle.

There is to be however a new and large and presumably more opulent Cathay lounge at HKIA to emerge (I am told) as the the airport renovation and extensions are completed.
Also most agree a new arrivals lounge although this seems less certain at this point.

I have not been to the Air France lounge which I believe is new but from images it looks to have that certain French elegance of style.

    Thanks cwoodward

The Pier was always my go to lounge in HKG, but the AF Premiere, which is around 10 years old, trumps it. Restaurant overseen by Ducasse, sumptuous shower suites, amazing Spa, and personal escort/chauffeur drive to the aircraft.

I envy the escort to the aircraft.
The best that I have in HK express immigration via the crew lane by virtue of my Lifetime Diamond with Cathay and then a cart to the gate.
Not as much panache but possibly more practical ?

Great news, I love the Pier First and just in time for my first post-Covid visit back to HK šŸ™‚
