NameRemoved-18/12/14ParticipantThis has been playing on my mind for a long time.
Vk/Sm was banned from the forum for no apparent reason other than he got up the nose of certain posters.
I am no BA fan but will stick my neck out and defend any person to express his/her own views.
Shame on BT and on other posters for not sticking up for him.

HarryMonkParticipantAgree with you Alexpo
While it was obvious he was very pro-BA which is perhaps what got up the nose of other posters, everyone has the option not to read or ignore his posts if they choose to. In amongst much of the BA spin was some useful information from time to time

IanFromHKGParticipantVK/SM did cause a huge amount of controversy, and some of it did appear to be deliberate trouble-making. He was also frequently rude about or belittled other posters. At the end of the day, his behaviour was borderline, at the very least. So I do understand why BT would ban him, particularly since his absence does seem to have heralded more polite discussion.
Having said all that, as HarryMonk points out, he did on occasion provide valuable information, and I myself did openly support him on occasion (not very often, I admit, but that was mostly because I often disagreed with him). Since he rarely upset me (although we did occasionally lock horns, particularly when I felt compelled to point out the hypocrisy in some of his posts), overall IMO he is a loss to the forum. But then it isn’t my forum, it is BT’s, and they ultimately have the right to include or exclude whoever they wish.

LuganoPirateParticipantVK did provide useful info on BA sales and so on, but others are now posting that and he was very pro BA but then I’m very pro Swiss so no problem there.
However, while I had no problem with him I have to agree with Ian concerning his behaviour and the way he would not only belittle but seek to arrogantly crush anyone who disagreed with him, especially new posters who from their posts seemed very interesting and could have been good contributors to the forum, but were put off by VK’s attitude towards them.

LuganoPirateParticipantPS. I can’t remember his handle, but whatever happened to the chap who worked for Virgin and used to frequently post?

IanFromHKGParticipantLP, if memory serves it was LeTigre
esselle – if I recall correctly, the reason your comment was deleted was that it was disparaging about VK/SM (about which I make no further comment!) and that it was unfair to make such a remark about someone who (since they no longer had access to the forum) had no right of reply. You seem to have forgotten to mention the “disparaging” element in your post above 😉

MrMichaelParticipantIf BT does decide to bar someone for whatever reason lies a danger. It could be that others posting will feel that the posts and people posting is being controlled (North Korea) again. Also I agree it can gave the opposite effect by driving our more sensitive fellow posters. BT must do what it decides to do, and accept the positives and negatives of that decision.

IanFromHKGParticipantMrMichael, although I agree with what you say, I think it is fair to say that the majority opinion on the forum was that there was insufficient control and too much opportunity for some posters to monopolise or manipulate the forum. I tended to stay fairly neutral in most of those debates (although I don’t pretend to have been perfect in that respect). There is a balance in all these things, and it is very hard it maintain it perfectly. While I may not have made the same decision that BT did, I find it hard to criticise them for the judgments that they have made.

IanFromHKGParticipantWell, esselle, it is sometimes difficult to be certain that a poster in an online forum is being ironic. I read the original comment, before it was deleted, and mentally pigeonholed it as “disparaging”. It appears BT did the same, or they wouldn’t have deleted it…

Hello. There were plenty of reasons and numerous warnings/second chances were given. That’s all we can say on this matter really as it’s about someone who is no longer here to explain/defend themselves. For this reason, I’m closing this thread.
