There have been numerous posts about the changes in the Skywards program and the general concensus seems to be that it is far less generous than before.

I would have expected that given the (generally) higher miles that are needed for a flight reward, it might be easier to get one, but this is clearly not the case.

Some examples. Trying to get an upgrade from business to first on EK004 LHR/DXB on the 14th of May – No availability – Yet there were at least five unsold seats in First when I checked last night! And trying to book a First Class using miles from DXB to Seoul in August (A380 service). Checked over seven days and no availability in Business or First.

    Anyone had similar experiences?

I regularly upgrade from Economy to Business using miles between Newcastle and Dubai and Bangkok – Hong Kong and have never had any availability issues.

Perhaps it is just their really busy routes. Despite the changes I still believe Skywards provides terrific value in comparison to some frequent flyer programmes

A bump for this as the comments are on the bottom of the interview with Brian LaBelle.
