I think you will probably find it has more to do with the seasons than the economy and the demand for leisure travel. Come October time it will turn around as UK people visit down under during the ANZ summer to leave our winter.

Have you tried “toping and tailing” by that if you have two round trips you know you are going to make. Book one SYD-LHR for your first leg and then your fourth leg is the return part of this flight.

When you return LHR-SYD you have a new booking which takes you home and that return provides the SYD-LHR sector of your second trip.

Might not save a lot but judging on the prices you quote you would have something worth having.
