SwissdiverParticipantMy thoughts are with all the people from the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, and anyone else feeling the loss of someone special to them.
I am among them. Funny for a Swiss. But like so many, if not all here, Her Majesty the Queen has always been there, leading by example at all times. Her dedication to her people was remarquable.
May Her Majesty the Queen rest in peace.
Long live the King.

Bath_VIPParticipantYour words are greatly appreciated Swissdiver, it is truly an end to an era.
For those interested in what happens next, the House of Commons has released this excellent document detailing what should happen over the next 2 weeks based on precedents established following the demises (as it is formally called) of previous monarchs.

DavidSmith2ParticipantI am staying close to Westminster this week. Yesterday afternoon, as the sun was setting on the Queen’s life, I took this photo from my bedroom window. A rainbow rising from the Palace of Westminster.

x2000travellerParticipantAnd I seem to remember that the Queen officially opened Kloten Airport’s railway station as part of her visit to the Switzerland in 1980….

SwissdiverParticipantThe Queen was a guest of honour on that day, x2000. This is what ZRH posted on FB in 2019:
In 1980, Queen Elizabeth II. was a Guest of Honour at the inauguration of the SBB CFF FFS railway station at the Airport Center. These days, around 76’000 commuters are passing ZRH by train every day. This makes Zurich Airport one of the top 10 busiest train stations in Switzerland.

EU_FlyerParticipantMany thanks for your post and kind words. The Queen was able to cross borders, bring people together and generally inspire. She’s a loss to many even beyond the UK and Commonwealth.
As for London, I have some friends in town over the next few weeks and they’re worried that the hotels (some very close to the Palace) will cancel their bookings to earn 5 times the income through new sales to all the media and guests coming to London.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

cwoodwardParticipantI doubt very much that the above would happen in any London 4 or 5 star group hotel. Independents (non branded) I would also say is also unlikely.
This providing that there are properly documented reservations and conditions are fully complied with. Check and check again !1 user thanked author for this post.

Tom OtleyKeymaster#London is pretty well full over the coming days, with many hotels closing off online bookings so they can manage availability and prices manually for foreign delegations. @guardian @ThePCAgency #TheQueen https://t.co/A4DsKh72pT
