Malaysia Airlines has introduced promotional fares on their website under the “Grab a Deal” program. Various departure and destination cities are offered under this promo, including European cities like Frankfurt and Rome. I have tried at numerous occasions to make a round-trip booking to these (from Kuala Lumpur), but with no success. Only one-way bookings were accepted by the system to these destinations. How does one get back to the departure city? Has anyone had different experience? Until then: Where’s the Deal?

Hmmm…not the sort of scam one would expect from a “5 star airline”!

i booked 4 return tickets jakarta-beijing and 1 one-way beijing-KL through grab-a-deal program, and all turned out fine. the return ticket was 375USD each! you have to register first to get the deal, and the deal varies by week.

I looked in on their site on the economy +.
No different seating to Economy, no diff meal service, just some enhanced check in luggage allowances & flexibility.
They dont have a premium economy cabin…
Not worth the huge extra payments in my view.

Malaysia always were very good, though their business seating is a bit old hat now.
they are radically discounting, as AirAsiaX is muscling in on their routes, so you be suprised at the business discounts also available.

Malaysia Airlines has one of the most questionable “Fuel Surcharge” policies in the industry. The new Enrich brochure and the Enrich website announces: “Malaysia Airlines has slashed fuel surcharges on international flights by as much as 73% after taking into account the decline in fuel prices.” The emphasis should be on the “by as much as”, as on some routes it is basically unchanged or only marginally changed.

Interestingly, their fuel surcharge on the Kuala Lumpur – Hong Kong sector is now approx. US $50.00 based on round-trip travel, while the fuel surcharge on the Kuala Lumpur – Guangzhou sector is US $130.00 based on roud-trip travel. (Hong Kong and Guangzhou are virtually the same distance from KL. )

Where does this tremendous difference come from? Does this really relate to the “decline in fuel prices”, or does it relate to the competition from Cathay?

Fuel surcharges are governed by the city’s government. If the Chinese govt allows more fuel surcharges, well, heck every airline will milk it as much as it could. But ex-HKG the govt there dictates how much fuel surcharge one may charge and hence its lower. Have you tried looking at the fuel surcharges ex-Europe still?

Very tough to subscribe to MAS flight deal offerings. Many advertised fares appear not to be available. Very slow through-clicking on pretty user unfriendly website.

In-flight service for short haul sectors is very good. KLIA and transport to KL Sentral is pure bliss!
