Reading about the TUI 737 being blown off the runway made me wonder why this airport is still open when Doncaster is closed. I remember my adrenalin levels rising when I did my twin rating there and this year experienced a near wing touch with Ryanair due to the perpetual cross wind. Having done a diversion to Finningley before demilitarisation I remember a vast runway with no obstructions.
Road approaches to Doncaster are also better.
