The first 11 months of 2023 HKG witnessed a faster than expected eight-fold rise in passenger numbers at HKIA reaching an expected 40 million passengers for 2023.

A very robust 2.6 times-104% year-on-year rise in passenger numbers and almost exactly as predicted by the HKIA Airport Authority.
These increases paint a picture of a reinvigorated Hong Kong aviation hub and a full recovery of passenger numbers to the 72 million volume achieved in 2019 making HKG again one of the worlds 5 busiest airports.

Flight movements surged by 90.6% to 262,015 for the first 11 months of the year and have surpassed 80% of pre-pandemic passenger numbers since mid-December – reaching on the 23rd December a post-pandemic record of 1,034 flight movements on the day.

If this 2024 HKIA forecast is as expected achieved it will again surpass the passenger numbers at both Singapore’s Changi of 66 million and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi forecast of 54 million for 2024.The the LHR forecast for 2024 is 81 million passengers.
