Interesting route news from Flydubai was announced today.

Government-owned Flydubai will become the first airline to link the Gulf directly with Penang and Langkawi in Malaysia.

Its daily flight starts on February 10, 2024.

Flight FZ1603 departs Dubai at 0410 to arrive in Penang at 1505 then continues to Langkawi to arrive 1645.

Flight FZ1604 departs Langkawi at 1945, stops in Penang, then reaches Dubai at 0105 the following day.

Flights are two-class and operated by B737 MAX aircraft.

This service will be a boon for Gulf=based travellers heading to either destination as, currently, an en route plane change is needed.

If there were a through fare from Europe (to include Emirates’ flights) then this service would also benefit European travellers who must also change en route in, for example, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.

Maybe Emirates has yet to negotiate such a fare ?

Perhaps a creative travel agent here in Europe would be able to sort something out.

Qatar is also re-launching back to Penang from Doha this October (via Phuket).

In fact I had forgotten that in 2019 QR launched a similar route and we reported the news at the time.

Of course when the pandemic arrived the route was cancelled.

As it would be QR throughout it meant it would be possible to book a through fare from Europe.
