This was new Business Class flat bed. Royal Laurel Class
Check in LHR. Eva Business check in is just inside the door of T3 so anyone sort of starts here, ground staff were good and took out one or two lost souls. I checked in early but it seems most people did too, I had to wait sometime for the one person in front of me to be sorted. Very quick check in/security and through to SAS Lounge in 10 mins. I do feel sorry for those travelling in First in the likes of Thai as there is not dedicated area for them. Two floors, good selection of cold food, one hot dish, chilli. Poor selection of sprits. Did pop into 1st Lounge but this seems to have been taken over by tour groups as someone was talking via Skype at full volume about what his wife did in the garden that day! Boarding was quick separate line for Biz and Prem into lounge and then Business called first, onto the aircraft 3rd. Was met and escorted to my seat, jacket taken, was asked if I had taken wallet passport out, nice touch. I was in 2K every seat is private and you cannot really see other passengers without looking round. Juice and Water offered, no champers yet, two other passengers asked too! Front cabin had one empty seat (will get on to others later). Cabin crew, all female (although I mistook the pilot for ground maintenance man much to the delight of the cabin crew) came round and address by name (wrong title but we just agreed first name would be fine) checking pre ordered main meals. Mine was wrong, Pork instead of Beef not a good mistake and I could not have the Beef it seemed. Silly mistake. So ordered Chicken off menu. Push back on time, take off 20 mins late. Breakfast order checked at this point and was what I ordered online.

Meal service and drinks all happened at once, I suppose good for night flight, will see what happens on return day flight. First course on trays, Smoked Trout Mouse with sort of tomatoes and an anchovy, perfect and great for me but not everyone’s choice though (and only one choice) warm breads served. Don Perignon is house champers which is a treat in business class. Two choices of German and French White. French and Spanish Reds. The not wanted chicken was in fact perfectly cooked and tasty, plated and served after removal of trout. Trays cleared, then another tray with desert and cheese. One thing they could do to save money is not have new cutlery and napkins for this but I am sure they know what they are doing. Cheese was small, cheddar I suppose and goats not brilliantly done. BUT desert of cheese cake which I seldom touch was knockout, best pudding on an airline for ages and a plate of fresh fruit too.

All cleared quickly and lights out…I took a walk before bed round the plane, the second section of business was very nice much smaller 4 rows and only a few people, worth a thought as I am sure we all want to sit near the front! Premium Economy likewise was not full and looked really nice for day flight maybe. Economy was fine but they were still eating so not sure how quickly they got served. Sadly one of the passengers was not well at all and on the floor so I made a quick exit. There followed a call for medial help so I do hope he was ok.

I settled down to sleep but did find the sort of foot bit to small for me and it took me some time to find a good position to sleep in. But very good duvet, best I have had in a long time and as the cabin was kept coolish was perfect for sleeping. A bit of noise from the crew doing something and also 3 or 4 announcements about turbulence. They may have to do this but woke me every time and I was belted up.

Woke after 4.5 hours sleep. watched some films (I do have to say I cannot really see much when films are darkish) good size screen though. Sort of mood lighting came on to wake the remaining of us up.

Lovely tray with fresh fruit in a hollowed out fruit came with hot croissants and jam. Then plated my ‘toad in the hole breakfast’ a nice idea but toad was to dry but eat the contents. The Captain said ‘Hello’ on our descent, odd touch but he was polite. Landed bang on time. Through premium immigration in 5 mins bag 5 mins later.

All in all perfect direct flight from LHR to BKK, well done EVA, only Thai and BA to compete, not done Thai Business only First but this is the one to beat. BA going to 777 and no First. I was also able to book my seat on booking a month ago for free.

Will post return flight review in November.
