hi guys, just wondering if there’s anyone here who has bought a global health insurance as I am wondering if I need one too. I have to work overseas for several months in one year and I am thinking I might need to get a global health insurance plan for myself. …

Found some articles talking about this topic but haven’t made up my mind yet…

Most of what they say in those articles is correct and most year round travel policies only cover you for 90 days in any one trip.

Something you do need is good acceptability with multi lingual backup staff. If you have an accident in some remote spot (or even not so remote) the last thing you want is to have to argue for hours about who will pay while your leg or arm is dropping off.

Personally I’m with BUPA and find them very good even though (thankfully) I’ve never had to claim. However on my few visits to hospitals worldwide I’ve always seem the BUPA sign and they tell me one call is enough to get authorisation.

Catherine – Try WorldNomads http://www.worldnomads.com. Maybe not quite the same as yours, but my situation is that I’m resident in KSA and have health insurance through the company. I travel around the Gulf and other places, what I needed was a policy that would cover me whilst I was say in Bahrain but if I needed to be sent home, I would be sent to the UK rather than KSA. It’s not cheap but worth the piece of mind.

I have used them for years and they are quite good but not cheap. You can exclude the USA though which brings the cost down by a lot. UK based company.
