I thought I ought to advise readers of the above as it must be a route which some of you must use.

Chiltern has proved a useful alternative to Avanti for travellers between London, Birmingham and vice versa.

But it’s revealed today that this service will be suspended between December 13 and January 8 inclusive.

The Chiltern Railways company suspended its London-Birmingham services for several weeks after a train derailed near Rugby. A passenger was killed and dozens were injured when the train hit a lorry at around 11am yesterday morning.
The driver of the lorry died at the scene.
Emergency services said they had been called to reports of a collision between a train and a vehicle on the M40 motorway near junction 10.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We sent two ambulance crews, a paramedic officer and our hazardous area response team to the incident.”
He added: “Sadly we have confirmed that a man has sadly passed away following the collision. We are working closely with colleagues from Warwickshire Police who are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.”
The rail operator said the accident happened just before 12pm.
It tweeted: “Due to a derailment on the line between Rugby & Banbury, trains are currently not running between these stations. Trains are expected to resume shortly.”
Rail replacement bus services are being provided between Rugby and Oxford.
Train services between Birmingham New Street and London Euston are also affected.
Passengers travelling between London and Birmingham are advised to check http://www.chilternrailways.com for updates.
