It is reported in Thailand that Chiang Mai is preparing to reopen for controlled tourism for those fully vaccinated in early July. It seems that the cities initial model would limit sightseeing itineraries to ‘sealed routes’, taking travellers to pre-approved local attractions with independent city travel prohibited. The plan has yet to be approved by the Thai COVID-19 Situation Administration but if it is I was told that other Thai cities are likely to follow. Interestingly nothing yet mentioned about Koh Samui.

Koh Samui is open and Bangkok Airways is flying in again with 2 flights a day from Bangkok and one from Singapore. Talk of Hong Kong flights starting late August. We have booked for September though at this stage flying via Bangkok.

Phuket was open but temporally closed again from 1st August due to up turn in virus cases.

It may fuelled by desperation and need to get the tourist industry income going again but I admire the Thai authorities for pushing forward towards normality.
