The Cathay lounges in HKG are very stylish and not too busy. Their Solus seat is a very clever device and the washrooms are excellent, especially the showers.

A lot has been said against the (now) old business class on Cathay and having seen how good the new product is I would say the old one looks poor by comparison but it’s still ahead of many carriers in that it is a fuly flat bed. You do feel a bit like you’re in a coffin and travelling with companions or family is hopeless but it is very private. I think the main problem is space around you which can hold the menu and not much more. If you are in a window seat you can chuck stuff between you and the window but given that you are facing the other way you need to be a contortionist to get it back. Upstairs feels distinctly better than downstairs.

The food was good and the service average.
