Been offered by an IATA registered travel agent the opportunity to buy sufficient One World airmiles for a round trip longhaul ticket UK to USA.

Is this legit in the UK or could it cause me problems at check in?

I remember looking into this once before and was told that if the airline checks the ticket, you could either forfeit the ticket or would be made to pay for another ticket. The problem is if you need to make a change to the travel dates, especially if an insurance claim was to occur. I would definately ask the airline before you pay any money.
