SimonS1ParticipantInteresting to see if they really are Boeing woes or just airline maintenance woes….

FDOSParticipantSimonS1, agreed.
An Untied 777 lost a wheel last month flying SFO-LAX; it was 22 years old. From the photos, this 737 looked like a max, so not that age.
Manufacturing or maintenance defect? It will all come out in the wash.
BTW, this does not just happen to Boeing aircraft. An AC 319 lost a wheel 3-4 years ago.
As they say, that’s why they have 2 per axle.

AndrewinHKParticipantThe Safair aircraft involved in this incident was a 16-year-old 737-800. I would imagine this is more of a maintenance issue, these things do happen with surprising frequency, a quick search I could find 3 incidents of wheel loss this year so far, Delta/United/Safair all happen to be Boeing aircraft 757/777/737, but as FDOS says it has happened to Airbus aircraft.

FDOSParticipantThanks Andrew – the video clip of the accident aircraft I saw appeared to have Max type winglets.
A Fly Safair plane returned to OR Tambo International Airport immediately after take off after losing one of its wheels while on its way to Port Elizabeth.

I didn’t realise these could be retrofitted to the -800.
