BOAC Super VC-10 maiden flight from Brooklands’ short runway

    Almost impossible to believe today but Vickers once had a factory close to London at Weybridge.

    That was where the VC-10 was maufactured.

    I know that some of you are fans of this great aircraft. I was lucky enough to make four flights in the VC-10, both standard and super variants, with BOAC and Gulf Air.

    VC-10 was designed for ‘hot and high’ airfields and suited BOAC’s African network.

    This video shows the maiden flight of the Super VC-10 from Brooklands (Weybridge).

    I realise this flight was almost empty but Brooklands’ runway was just 3,750 feet in length.

    By comparison LCY’s runway, which is considered short, is 4,948 feet in length.
