Not surprising given the number of wet leased aeroplanes from Eastern Europe Monarch are now utilising for their operations. Thankfully it was not more serious.

The latest from Birmingham airport’s website (updated at 1519) is as follows:

    Flight disruption

An incident involving Monarch flight ZB467 arriving from Nice and operated by AURELA Airlines occurred at 13.11 this afternoon.

Passengers left the aircraft by the steps; no one was hurt. The airport is open with flights arriving and departing. Some departing flights may still be subject to delay.

Passengers should contact the airline directly.

    Why “not surprising”, JamesBAgold?

A number of other forums have cited concerns with the airlines being used, age & quality of planes, skills and quality of crew (and limited English skills)… I could go on – since Monarch embarked on their ‘expansion’ through wet leasing.

The CEO of Monarch said on Radio 5 tonight that they had terminated Aurela. There was another incident recently where passengers suffered a 48 hour delay due to problems on the same (25 year old) plane.

Looking at AVHerald and Airliners.net forums there’s quite a lot of comment on this. Seems its an old 737 from 1988 and has been involved in a few other incidents. Internet too slow where I am now to post links. Sorry.
