Gov’t-managed train operator LNER wants customers to pack wisely and not take more than three items of luggage.
Reason is because modern units no longer have the space to accommodate lots of luggage … unless seats are removed to provide the space.
And with train firms increasingly becoming like airlines less seating capacity equates to revenue loss.
What media does not mention is that LNER must compete with Lumo over its prime London-Edinburgh route.
Open access Lumo has been a success ever since it offers a new product for UK rail customers.
Lumo emulates low-cost airlines with its low fares and, not surprisngly, has a strict luggage policy.
That’s something Festival performers discovered in 2022.
