LuganoPirateParticipantI’m looking forward to the “I thought we were all going to die” stories!
Apologies in advance for being so cynical.

MartynSinclairParticipantI am interested to hear the real reason why the fighter jets were sent.
Clearly there was a breakdown in communications with one centre not passing/clearing the aircraft through to the next OR were the BA crew lax in their en route checks…?

Gist of it seems to be the plane didn’t contact Romanian or Hungarian ATC.

As a guess…..
1 – Previous ATC forgot to hand off BA to Hungarian ATC
2 – BA radios tuned to previous ATC
3 – BA had 121.5 volume turned down because of background noise and didn’t hear the calls from Hungarian ATC
4 – BA was ‘following the magenta line’ and didn’t realise they’d crossed a border
Of course, I may be wrong, but it sounds as if it may be tea and biccies with the chief pilot.

AisleSeatTravellerParticipantperhaps the air force pilots were a tad bored or fancied a bit of ad-hoc training
